![]() I found a 79 peterbilt 359 thats in really good shape with pretty good paint on it. At this rating an 8 cylinder engine would only be 533 HP, so I cant see how a 79 mechanical engine could do it reliably. Also, on the 6 cylinder, fuel consumption was pretty bad, we got somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 mpg if I recall and a similar truck with a 330 HP ISC got around 10. The only way that I would buy that truck was if it was cheap enough to re power with a cat or MECHANICAL cummins. Fuel consumption will only be learned by running the truck, sometimes they are surprizingly good other times abysmal. A lot of that was the ability of them running at 2350 High idle RPM. The original 8V92 with the high mount turbo was rated at 430 HP and would pull 480 easy we had one in an international that put 515 to the ground. In its time that was the most HP to the ground we ever tested and we did Ks not to get paid for but as a favor Ours was the only 600 HP dyno in Edmonton, at the time. Fabricator welder. They are an oil cooled engine, and if the oil level gets low or you get it dusted it will use a lot of oil. If you look on the valve cover it will say HEAVEY HEAVEY HEAVEY that is the life cycle, look at a CAT. It will sat the MM3 of fuel burnt to make max HP look at a newer CAT.
